Social Responsibility
Carole McClellan Furs and Leathers opposes the inhumane treatment of animals and adheres to the highest ethical standards in the production and sourcing of fur used in our designs.
Carole McClellan Furs and Leathers does not trade in illegal or endangered species and uses mainly furs that have been previously owned and repurposed and up-cycled into new designs. Occasionally a new pelt is used, and it is stated clearly in our description of the product. All furs are farmed or taken from abundant sustainable populations in the wild.
We believe in the use of real fur vs fake fur which is a plastic product. Natural fur is a much more environmentally friendly and sustainable product than plastic that breaks up into plastic micro-fibers and pollutes the waterways and environment.
Real fur is compostable unlike plastic. In addition, many other products are made from the harvest of fur bearing animals not just the pelt is used. In addition, fur farms provide valuable oil (from fat) used in several medical and cosmetic products, paint brushes, pet food and as leather treatments, plus biofuels and high-quality composted fertilizer. Fish waste such as heads, guts and filleting from the fishing industry represents an important raw material for mink feed.
Real fur can last for generations if it is taken care of properly unlike faux furs that cannot be regenerated and restyled with the dramatic results of natural fur.
